WordPress vs Blogger. Which is The Best Blogging Platform?

Many questions circulate in the online forums about WordPress vs Blogger. So which is the best blogging platform for you when you want to build a website? I have used both. (In the YouTube video above Chris talks a little about general WP.) However, there are a few important considerations to take into account before choosing. I now build all WordPress websites as this is my favorite by far. I will explain why.

It really depends on what your needs are for a website. Do you just want to blog socially, stay connected, add a few pictures and links for example? If this is the case then Blogger (or BlogSpot) is quite suitable for your needs. It has many different themes to choose from and is an easy platform to use. Today both blogs and websites can be set up in a similar manner. Both have widgets.

However, the major difference between WP and Blogger is that WordPress has highly functional SEO platform capabilities. This makes it very powerful for not only the clean and neat looks but more so for crucial SEO purposes. There are easy to install free WordPress plugins that will help you get targeted traffic to your website or blog using the power of SEO. You can add your target keywords and descriptions. This is ultimately every person’s goal; to get people to read what you have to offer. You can even “tweak” or change the settings to make your site extremely search engine friendly. Just as a small example, do you notice on the bottom of this page there are links leading to “related posts”? This is a free easy to install WP plugin. FancyFonts can be changed with plugins, more than you could ever need! The list goes on…

WordPress includes hundreds of themes to choose from. You have many more options than with Blogger. You decide how many columns you want in your sidebars. You decide the overall layout, look and colors of your site.

So in summary, I think if you are trying to decide weather to use WordPress or Blogger, personally through experience I think the best blogging platform is WordPress. The flexibility with design and functionality is amazing. Browse Blogger and WordPress pages including their help pages to learn more on the topic. WP is also the most popular blogging platform today incidentally. Go to WordPress.com if you only want to use their hosting service.
