Google is Now a Teenager – Happy 13th Birthday!
As a teenager, they have celebrated their birthday by including a customarily simple “doodle” showing the five letters of the company logo sitting on top of a birthday cake. A very traditional scene indeed!
At this tender age, the birthday celebrations come at a time when it is in rivalry with an even younger giant, Facebook. Amid suggestions that Facebook could become the default form of online navigation, Google recently tried to overhaul its rival with Google+. Only time will tell how the public and people in general move forward with this concept.
Recent research from Nielsen has shown showed that US internet users spend more time on Facebook than any other website. However, Google has a 90% share of the global internet search market, according to the most recent figures from metrics company StatsCounter, although its share changes considerably depending on which country you live in. Little wonder marketers online all know that rankings in Google are what really matter. This could change in the future, only time will tell.
The picture you see on many days on Google’s homepage, today on their birthday is in keeping with Google’s low-key approach to celebrating its birthday. They have a simple design, but one wonders how big their office party will be today. Surely an affair to celebrate!
Happy Birthday Google, some times we love you, sometimes we aren’t so sure about your dominance. But all in all, it is great to see you trying to give your users the best experience possible when they come searching for something online. The panda update was good for all websites adding value to the web and applying white hat SEO Link Building techniques. I wonder what the next 13 years will hold for Google? food for thought!
